Turns out this shot was with the engine out . So this is a high height for the front end. I've posted some Legacies more my style below. For cleansing purposes.

I hope his car breaks everything.

Um....I'm lost. Why would you convert a car to FWD?
![]() 12/18/2013 at 18:55 |

More low most likely, less drivetrain stuff in the back.

Regardless it's crispy clean, good for the purpose he built it.

If you see a subaru swap meet for sale box full of this, let me know. It's a 80-84 gen 2 lift kit. :P
Must restore balance to the universe.

Hey man people like this guy probably think that having 500 horsepower to go the speed limit is stupid. I'm not gonna judge, it's a clean car.

His choices on paint, wheel deign, and cosmetic mods is nice, but running stretched tires is really not a good idea. Not for the fact that it destroys the car's handling, but more because with all but the most minor of stretches you will be running tires with too low of a load rating for the car. Couple this with the fact that hitting even minor potholes can debead the tires and you have a car that is super unsafe to drive on the freeway and is a major risk for a blow out. Now, if this is a car that only ever gets driven around a parking lot, and is pretty much trailered between shows, then it's whatever, but I have the feeling that is likely not to be the case. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for folks being able to mod their cars, it's a hobby of mine as well, all I want is for folks to not do it in such a way that just operating the car in normal conditions is hazardous.

This isn't even getting into what can/will happen when a car that is riding on it's bump stops or is at full suspension compression all the time hits a bump at freeways speed, which is possibly even more dangerous.

That is about the worst idea ever. Here is my RWD Legacy to restore some balance.

Those tires don't look that stretched, I had more stretch on my E30 and living in Minnesota the roads are notoriously terrible, she handled it fine. I never debeaded or anything remotely close to that.
It's not that bad for the handling either, that's a huge over statement. Drive two identical cars except for the sidewall angle and you'll agree.

The coilovers are built for going low, not for track performance, they are perfectly safe at that ride height.

Staaaahp. Your car is too awesome.
![]() 12/18/2013 at 19:25 |

*shrug* I've seen it happen multiple times, and it being worse for handling depends on a number of factors. A slight stretch, say running a 225 width tire on an 8" wide wheel will not be that big of a deal, nor will it affect handling, but say that wheel has a super aggressive offset and in order not to have major rub issues the person has to step their tires down to a 215, this absolutely WILL affect handling negatively. I've seen idiots running setups like 225's on 10" wide wheels before. So like I said, it all depends on a number of factors, a minor stretch, you are absolutely right, wil not hurt a damn thing, but the major stretches that some (not all, some) of the hellaflush guys run absolutely will have detrimental effects.

For what it is, it's an incredibly well-designed car. I'll give him credit for that. But having played both games (I own a comfortable tourer-style E24 and bought a second that was slammed to the ground), I personally prefer the comfortable one. That said, one of my dream cars is a Legacy GT on coils at a firm, streetable height. This car, in fact:
As in, that exact one.

You're too right. Have a cookie:

The thing is he is not building it to go fast, so chances are he doesn't care how fast it corners. I had a 225 on a 9.75 and it was just fine. Never debeaded or anything like that. Obviously it didn't handle like a 275 would but I didn't care that particular car wasn't for going fast. It was low and slow.

they may be *built* to go low, but that does not mean that they were designed to be safe at that height.

I'm sure BC wouldn't make coilovers that are designed to go low that are dangerous when ridden low.
![]() 12/19/2013 at 15:14 |
|
Really? I'm quite sure that they would. If there's a market for it someone is going to fill that market, regardless of the danger. If BC didn't make coils that went low enough, someone else would and they'd lose money. I'm not trying to accuse BC of doing this but just pointing out that it's a possibility. If you read the fine print in the legal disclaimer that comes with the product, I'm pretty sure you'll find some line in there about "recommended settings" and if the coils are set anywhere outside of those settings, the producer is not liable for any damages. Just a thought.
Cheers
